WHAT ABRASIVE MATERIAL IS RIGHT FOR YOUR 52" x 75" WIDE BELT SANDING APPLICATION?
ALUMINUM OXIDE- Aluminum oxide is one of the most cost effective and versatile wide belt sanding material's there is. You can use it on virtually any surface including wood, aluminum, stainless steel, steel & composites. Our premium cloth backed aluminum oxide belts are made using a blend of polyester and cotton which means these belts can be ran in any wet or dry application. If you are wondering if OPEN COAT or CLOSED COAT is right for your application, we suggest you strongly suggest this question: Are you sanding a very soft wood? 95% of the time we find the answer is NO..in which case you should choose CLOSED COAT. Closed coat has about 25% more grain on the surface than an open coat sanding belt which means you get longer life of your abrasive belt! For ALL metalworking applications you will always choose closed coat as well!
ZIRCONIA - Zirconia sanding belts are a fantastic option for HEAVY stock removal and long life. If you are looking for a coarser sanding belt grit that will do some heavy lifting and do it in a hurry, you would probably be best suited for zirconia which is available in 24 grit, 36 grit, 40 grit, 50 grit, 60 grit, 80 grit, 100 grit & 120 grit. While we don't have all of these grits on our website, you can reach out to us and we can custom make any belt size in that grit for you. While many people think that zirconia can only be used on metals like aluminum or stainless, zirconia is actually very common for woodworking where you want a durable, long lasting belt to quickly remove stock from your surface.
WHAT IS THE MOST COMMON GRITS FOR A 52" X 75" SANDING BELT MACHINE?
The most common grit sequence frequently ran on wood or woodworking applications for an automated sander is generally 80 grit, 120 grit then 180 grit for the last pass. Its important to note that everyone looks for different finishes and so this can vary greatly. What condition you get the wood or metal is also a big factor. We do not recommend ever skipping more than 2 grits in your grit sequence as this can cause you to miss deep wood gauges, mill marks or other flaws.
