What should you verify before choosing?

The exact fit, abrasive construction, grit, machine setup, work material, and finish target all affect the result.

COARSE • BROWN

Live label: 40–60 grit range

Use for the most aggressive cleaning and blending offered on this page. Start with lighter pressure because the narrow belt can concentrate contact.

MEDIUM • MAROON / RED

Live label: 80–120 grit range

Use for general blending, deburring, oxidation cleanup, and preparation where a medium surface-conditioning scratch is appropriate.

VERY FINE • BLUE / GREENISH

HOW NON-WOVEN GRADES BEHAVE

Why does a surface-conditioning belt feel different from sandpaper?

A coated-abrasive belt holds a more continuous abrasive layer on a backing. A non-woven belt distributes abrasive through an open, conformable web, allowing it to blend contours and create a less rigid contact.

The non-woven structure can resist loading better than a dense coated surface in appropriate cleaning and blending work. It still needs inspection, ventilation or extraction, and replacement when loaded or damaged.

Grade ranges are approximate selection labels. Coarse 40–60, medium 80–120, very fine 180–240, and ultra fine 320–400 do not promise the same scratch as an exact coated-abrasive grit.

HOW TO USE IT

Condition the surface with light, even, directional passes

Follow the tool manual for guarding, belt direction, tracking, speed, contact arm, work support, and ventilation or extraction.

Are those grit numbers exact P-grit equivalents?

No. Non-woven surface-conditioning grades create a different contact and scratch than conventional coated abrasive. Use the displayed ranges as relative selection guidance and test the finish on the actual material.

Which grade should I use for a brushed stainless finish?

Very fine is a common starting point for directional satin or brushed-finish preparation, and the original page notes the blue grade for this type of work. Final appearance depends on the prior scratch, alloy, tool speed, pressure, direction, contact geometry, and number of passes.
