Collection: Sanding Belts

Maverick Abrasives converts and supplies sanding belts for wood, metal, glass, and composites in more than 200 stock sizes, from 1" x 30" knife-grinder belts to 52" x 103" wide belts. Belts are converted through our Anaheim, California operation with bi-directional splice options and abrasive materials selected for the job. Product origin varies by item; contact us for current custom-size lead times and minimums.

HOW TO CHOOSE A SANDING BELT

Measure first. Sanding belts are sized by width and circumference (the full length around). If you have an old belt, cut it and measure it flat; if you don't, wrap a tape around both rollers with the tensioner released.

Pick the grain for the material.
• Aluminum oxide – the all-purpose choice for hardwood, softwood and general shop work. Open-coat versions resist loading on resinous woods.
• Zirconia – self-sharpening grain that stays aggressive on steel, stainless and aluminum longer than aluminum oxide.
• Ceramic – long-lasting, cool-cutting grain for heavy metal removal, weld grinding and knife making.
• Silicon carbide – sharp, friable grain for glass, stone, composites and fine finishing between coats.

Match grit to the step. Start with 36–60 grit for shaping and stock removal, 80–120 for leveling, and 150–220 for finishing before stain or paint. Jumping more than one grit size at a time can leave scratches the next belt cannot remove.
